Let’s talk about our new french drink list ‘signature francaise’, made of two drinks:
‘what about a straight up martini’ and ‘parisian sling’.
So easy to drink, they are made for ‘french guest’ .
They represents two big cocktail, the ‘Vesper Martini’ and ‘Singapore Sling’.
I would like to give you few informations about them.
Ngiam Tong Boon, Singapore ‘ hotel Raffles’’ barman , makes his cocktail for the first time in 1915.
So the recipe will change trough the next 20 years and in 1930 was mentioned in the glorious ‘Savoy Cocktail Book’ straight up to 1970, when became an official IBA recipe.
Down here the original 1970’ recipe:
3 cl di gin;
1,5 cl di Heering Cherry Liqueur;
0,75 cl di triple sec;
0,75 cl di DOM Benedictine;
1 cl di granadine;
12 cl pineapple juice;
1,5 cl lime juice;
1 angostura dash .
So here borns our ‘parisian sling’, made of:
6 cl spiced rum;
2 cl dom benedictine;
strawberry syrup;
passion fruit;
veuve cliquot top.
So, let’s change up to ‘what about a straight up martini’, inspired to ‘Vesper Martini’.
Ian Fleming, writer of ‘Casinò Royale’, gave the birth to the ‘Vesper Martini’.
Most drunk cocktail in ‘Martini’ history.
Below the ‘Vesper Martini’ recipe, compares to ours:
6 cl Gin;
1.5 cl Vodka;
0.75 cl Lillet Blonde.
‘What about a straight up martini’:
5 cl white vermouth
2 cl lillet blonde
1 cl yellow chartreuse;
raspberry dust crusta
Insipred to one of the best cocktail of vintage mixing, switch to a modern way, with less alcohol than the original and a better flavor, perfect as ‘aperitivo’ .
